User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4

When the spelling checker is invoked in Compuserve/Netscape forums (Prospero
software), the text window appears but the functional controls under it do not.
This appears to be from the online service http://SpellChecker.net not part of the
forum software. It works correctly on all 1.0 versions of Firefox. Entering
these forums requires an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) account (free).

Minor glitch: when you open the message reply editor and click in the box, the
text cursor does not appear until you start typing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter URL: http://go.compuserve.com/linuxforum
2. Click "login", log in with AIM "screen name" and password
3. Select any message catagory on left of screen
4. Select any message thread
5. Click "Reply" under any message and type a few words
6. Click "Spell Check"

Actual Results:
Child window opens with text box showing message. spelling errors are
highlighted. Blank area under text box.

Expected Results:
Should show several function buttons and a "suggested spelling" box under the
text box.
SpellChecker is not part of Firefox. Please file a bug with the maker of
SpellChecker for this issue.

The problem exists only with Firefox 1.5 beta 1. The site/tool works perfectly
with all other browsers, including all subversions of Firefox 1.0.x as noted in
the original comment. Also Konquerer, Galeon, etc.

This makes 1.5 unusable for me.

For one, they do not guarantee their extension to work on Linux. Secondly, they
do not guarantee it to work in Firefox 1.5. Thirdly, it's not our problem/code.

I'm seeing the same problem (controls missing on SpellChecker.net window) when in Netscape/CompuServe Forums. That's using a Mac G4 and OS 10.4.2. Given this wasn't an issue with 1.0.7 but is in beta 1.5 Rev 3, it looks like a Firefox issue, not an issue with SpellChecker.net.
The problem also exists in the Windows version and is still present in the 1.5 final release. A lot of people are going to have to switch browsers over this. I guess I will take a close look at Opera. It definitely works with the Prospero software used on the Netscape/Compuserve forums and a lot of forum users really like it.
