User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051003 Firefox/1.4.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051003 Firefox/1.4.1

if you select a directory when choosing where to download files, and then delete
that directory, firefox attempts to download to the dir you just deleted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make sure you have "Ask me to save every file" checked under the "Downloads"
pref tab in Options
2. make firefox download a file
3. click the new directory button
4. press esc to leave the dir name as "New Folder"
5. highlight "New Folder" by clicking on it
6. press del to delete hit
7. click "OK" to save the file
8. get error message saying path blah\blah\New Folder doesn't exist
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051002
Firefox/1.4.1 ID:2005100221

I see this as well. Clicking Save once more saves the file to the right
location. Assuming you wanted to save the file to the place where the new folder
was.
Also reproducible with Mozilla 1.8b1 and SeaMonkey 1.0a.
this feels like a windows fileopen dialog bug and not a firefox bug
it happens also on Trunk

it's the windows fileopen dialog that does not select anything when you delete the current selected folder

so should this be invalid?

Problem is with Windows itself. You can reproduce this bug in Internet Explorer. This means it is a file manager issue with the Windows operating system. There is nothing that Firefox can to to fix this.
