Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.6

INTENTION:

Tried to make new folder in drafts,to which I would move one of my organized,
filter-bound set of folders.

Accounts--->Local folders-->Inbox--->Filtering to Drafts/(that
folder|subfolders structure)

ACTION:
When I moved Drafts/(that folder|subfolders structure) to Drafts/NewFolder/
(that folder|subfolders structure),

TB 1.0.6 reacted by moving 80% SUBfolders correctly, deleting 20% of the rest.
I was really astonished!

Re-moving it to the previous location deleted 20% of the folders again.

FILTER PROBLEM:
Upon receiving and filtering new mail, the filter uule complained that it cannot
find filter-bound folder and that it will try to disable it (clicked ok)

Then Filter rule disappeared, and TB started to crash after every filter
attempt because it couldn't find some filter-bound subfolder.

I cannot make filter rules appear again in Local Folders portion of the filter.

e.g. I make a new rule,it appears in filter window, but when I close the window
or app it is lost/disappeared again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.create accounts that routes its mail in global inbox
2.make a folder with 6 or more subfolders in Drafts
3.create filter rules to filter incoming mail from Accounts--->Local folders--
>Inbox     TO     --->Drafts/(that folder|subfolders structure)

4.collect some mail...
5.backup all of your mail folders

THEN TRY THIS "INNOCENT" MOVE:

6.MOVE the folder mentioned (with many subfolders bound w/ filter rules) to
another folder in drafts.

Actual Results:
On the first occasion,TB hasn't found one folder to put the message to.Then it
has shut this rule down.
THIS HAS TRIGGERED THE BUG,look downwards:

It seem to shut whole lot more down;

You should get a message that the filter rules will be changed as the folders
locations has been changed

(You can hit checkmark not to show this message again) and OK

You folders are now being moved to another location...are they??

there are only few subfolders moved, the rest is missing (where ???)

If you try to play smart and move them BACK... you will again lose a few of the
remaining folders.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: OPEN THE FILTERS WINDOW/Local Folders filter rules.
All your rules will not be visible anymore. It exists and is trying to
process,but it's not visible anymore.

After this phase it gets worse:
Upon filtering it says it cannot find the (filtered) folder and
crashes the software.

Expected Results:
Just to move folder with subfolders to another(newly-made) Folder.

I've made a few reports with Quality feedback agent, then got bored.

Now even if I try to hack filter rules by deleting msgfilterrules.dat
(assumpted erroneous). It cannot make filter rules appear again.

copied filterrules.dat from the old account nothing.

Installed Thunderbird 1.0.7 over the old 1.0.6 - nothing

This is the dead end for me.I don't know how to repair the local inbox|filter
rules functionality.
------------

Question on developers upon taking magnifying glass on the buggy code is:

Q: is there a chance to get back invisible/inaccessible folders?

(Self-answered five days later,confirmation|test needed: no.By checking
FileSystem (NTFS) on my HDD, it seems that those folders has been deleted upon
moving. I repeat SEEMS.)

I'll try to make it concise here:

INTENTION was to organize folders - reorganizing them in a different way

TWO main problems emerged:

1.Folders deleted/lost ;
2.Filters auto disabled because these folders were filter-bound

2a. TB 1.0.6 was crashing because of problem no.2-could'n figure out where the
folders were.

3. counteract to crashing was deleting filtermsg.dat (no effect), and putting
back old filtermsg.dat

4.found TB1.0.7, installed over the old TB1.0.6

5. Filter rules still not working.

6.Over & out.

This is probably a dup of a bug that has been fixed in 1.5

Nope-I was using TB1.0.6 when it happened.

Now even with TB1.0.7 filter rules are not working (msgFilterRules.dat i think
is the file containing it (?) )

(Is there some method to fix messed up filters? )

msgFilterRules.dat ,(not filtermsg.dat) was the file I've meant.

I don't understand your comment. 1.06 has a lot of bugs that are fixed in 1.5.
If you're using 1.06, what evidence do you have that it's not fixed in 1.5?

My last entry on this problem is:

Dear,

Due to my doubt whether there was TB 1.0.5 or TB 1.5 ,I cannot give evidence of 1.5.

I WILL TEST IT UPON TB1.5 FINAL RELEASE.

In TB 1.0.6 this is ALWAYS reproducable bug.

Until then,I am sticking to a 1.0.7.

The filter non-existent issue is an separate issue.

This all has been resolved in 3 hours time via standard procedure
(--> a complete erasing and reinstallation of TB1.0.6 preferences and settings data, then manually setting mail accounts and data folders from a backup)

This seems to happen with nested folders only (when moving a folder that has subfolders) - 3 things happen:

1) the move isn't visible until TBird is restarted
2) the folders are copied, not moved
3) only the parent folder and the first subfolder get's copied, the rest does not

I just moved over my outlook 2003 mail database and re-arranged the folders in TBird.
Moving folders that have no sub-folders worked fine (immediately visible, too).
Moving folders that DO have sub-folders resulted in the oddness explained above (restarting TBird a lot, moving the sub-folders one by one, then erasing the remaining copies worked fine but was a major drag due to the amount of folders I had to move).

Hi!

I came accross this error in Version 1.5 on Windows.
Is this fixed in the 2.0 version?

What I did was copy a folder with a lot of subfolders (>10) from an account to the local folders.
All the subfolders were created, but the messages inside the subfolders were only copied from the first few subfolders.

The bug is reproducable on this machine.
Some of the subfolders are empty, could this be the cause of the problem?

Is this related to this bug, or should I open a new one?

Regards
Werner
