Proxy: if you get a DNS error, you can never load a different URL
I tried loading http://www.fx.com. The browser never responded...the throbber kept spinning, the page never loaded. The message on the status line was "resolving http://www.fx.com" or something to that effect. I tried loading the page in Nav 4, and immediately got this DNS error page: Error The requested item could not be loaded by the proxy. Netscape Proxy is unable to locate the server: www.fx.com The server does not have a DNS entry. Check the server name in the Location (URL) and try again. Proxy server at supernova.netscape.com on port 8080 So I stopped the page load, but I could not load any other network URLs. I stopped the app and restarted, and I could load URLs fine. It's seems like: 1) we're not responding to the DNS error 2) once we get a DNS error, we can never resolve another host.
Proxies need to work for beta.
Target Milestone: M14
Putting on PDT+ radar for beta1. Will be minus if not fixed by 03/10.
Whiteboard: [PDT+] w/b minus on 03/10
To be sure this is understood: Proxies currently work. IF a proxy returns a DNS error (meaning you put a typo in an URL, or the site is not currently listed via DNS), then your navigator must be "restarted." Is that correct? Thanks, Jim
there isn't a special case for a proxy's DNS error. It is generally reported back as a 503 HTTP response which we just display as is. I tried reproducing this and couldn't get reproduce any problems... subsequent requests to the same proxy work just fine. I tried it also with tegu.mozilla.org:3130 but I didn't see any problems. I wonder if this was some problem with the proxy. Marking WORKSFORME...
