Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: Firefox ver 1.0.6 upgrade to ver 1.0.7

Ever since i have updated my firefox from ver 1.0.6 to ver 1.0.7 it has not
worked, anywhere near a respectable level of porformance that i have becomed
accostumed to from firefox. Before the update to 1.0.7 Firefox never had an
issue, or anything worth getting upset over. But i can start one instance of
firefox, then go to my quick luanch, or firefox.exe itself and i am unable to
start a second. Further more when i try to activate a second firefox, not only
those it not appear but it forces firefox to become almost a runaway process

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use a PC with windows XP pro, that has a Firefox ver 1.0.6
2. Make the Firefox style reflect that of Internet Explorer.
3. Update your 1.0.6 to a firefox 1.0.7 using the new update links that appear
occasionally.
4. After the update, and firefox restart surf the web for an hour.
5. Now try to open a second Firefox, by launching it from the quick luanch.

Actual Results:
A second instance of firefox did not launch, I was unaware at the moment but
Firefox became a runaway process, that eventually caused my computer to freeze
up. though this could have been caused by the fact that i was shocked that it
didnt star up and occasionally like every 5 minutes would hit the button
again.

Expected Results:
The user should be able to click on a quickluanch, a firefox shortcut, or
Firefox.exe itself and start a secondary instance of firefox without the fear
of thier computers crashing

I'm not sure exactly what has cuased major issues with firefox, but i am sure
that they all started when i had upgraded to ver 1.0.7. The worst part about
what my firefox has started to do is it will not respond when i have tried to
change my settings in a hope of a remedy, they change physically but firefox
reactions is stil the same.

This update has caused numerous issues with firefox. I was going to bug more
but it seems that the other issues had been entered into the system already.
Personally i will be updating to Beta in the next 5 minutes. Since i have been
forced to use IE, I can not indure this torture any longer... Boo IE

WFM. Doubleclicking on firefox.exe opens a new window of the same browser.

reporter, can you try in -safe-mode
see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

it may well be one of your extensions causing a problem
Well i went ahead and reloaded, friefox ver 1.0.6 followed by firefox ver 1.0.7
and got the same results. However when you told me about the safe mode your
right it worked fine.

when i looked through the list of plugins while i was in safe mood i couldnt
figure out which one was the cause of the problem. I proceed it to get out off
safe mood and unistall them one by one to see which one or group of plugins was
the problem. anyway since i wasnt sure which one it was and when i went to beta
this morning i had removed and added a whole new bunch, so i just wen t back to
beta it is too frustrating to try to do something that your not sure how to do
and then be completely isolated form support while in the Firefox browser. *in
the state that it was*

Anyway. Thank you for the safe mode advice i never knew that it was there. but
thankfully 1.5b2 checked to see if the current plug ins i had were compatible or
not. Which saved me from having to experience that agin =/
it's probably caused by an extension, not by a plug-in
So, Resolved WFM?
Its was really only resiolve through 1.5b2 up grade, i was not able to figure
which extension exactly caused the problem however here is the list if ext. that
were disabled when the upgrade happened:

Remove it Permanentyly 1.0.4
Yahoo TV 0.3.2.1
Simpler Blue 0.1
Fireworld 0.3
FoxyVoice 0.1.1
Phoenity 1.4.1
Play Launch 0.2.4
Firefox Bookmark Share 0.3.4
downTHEMall! 0.9.4
SpoofStick 1.0.5

I was unable to figure out the precise cause for the problem, only becuase when
My browser returns to the way it was, i will be able to change my preffrences
with no actual affect on the browser, My CPU mem usage will start to go through
the roof amd i have a Gig of RAM. and I basically have a limited amount of time
of actual functionality before My computer will start to lock up. and to top it
off i wont be able to contac firefox in the mode with out the help of some other
Web Browser
Resolving WFM as per comment 4.
Reporter, correct operation in safe mode indicates that it is indeed one of your
extensions causing the problem. The upgrade to 1.5b2 surely disabled the
problematic one. See the MozillaZine forums for help on determining which
extension caused these issues: http://forums.mozillazine.org/
