User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/312.5.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/312.3.1 Build Identifier: I was trying to copy a list from an email into Microsoft Word. I copied it in Thunderbird and tried to past into a word document and got nothing. Word said there was nothing to paste. I then tried to copy the text to a blank email message and then copy that info into a blank word document and still Word said there was nothing to paste. It did not make a difference whehter I used the keyboard commands or whehter I used the commands int eh file menu. The only way I was able to copy this info from the email was to copy it and past it into the OS X Text Edit application, save the file as a Word Document and then open up that word document in Word and past the info into my document. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Problem occurs in both Excel and in Word 2. 3. Expected Results: You should be able to copy items from any email and paste them directly into any application.

This happens for me on Windows. I think I've noticed it on Thunderbird 1.5 going all the way back to the beginning. It seems that the copy function doesn't copy to the clipboard correctly, because copied text from other applications and windows can be pasted in the message.

(In reply to comment #0) > I was trying to copy a list from an email into Microsoft Word. A "list"? Could you be more specific? Were you trying to copy addresses or text from the message? If the latter, was the message HTML or plain text? > I then tried to copy the text to a blank email message and then copy that > info into a blank word document So you were able to successfully paste into the new message composition window? Was this a plain-text or HTML compose window? > The only way I was able to copy this info from the > email was to copy it and past it into the OS X Text Edit application With this latter copy & paste, you copied the same way as the way that failed with Word? Does this mean the paste only worked for a plain-text editor? If so, are there other plain-text editors availabe you can try? What about other formatting-aware programs (e.g. Mail.app, if it has an HTML compose mode)? Also: which version of Thunderbird are you running? I'm not able to reproduce the problem under Windows: I can copy formatted text from an HTML message in my Inbox and paste into a Word 2000 document, with no problem. This includes copying an HTML bulleted list (<ul>). This could be a Mac-only problem, comment 1 notwithstanding.

I think when I commented on this bug I was running version 1.5.0.4 (on WinXP). After receiveing this update, I tried to reproduce the problem. I was unable to running the current version 1.5.0.7, and I don't recall it happening after I installed version 1.5.0.5 either. I think it's fixed in WinXP.

I believe when I wrote the original bug, I was using thunderbird 1.3 or greater. Not sure what was number they were up to last year. I was using Mac OSX Panther, 10.3. In response to the comment from mcow@well.com (Mike Cowperthwaite) I was trying to copy a list that had bullets or soem form of formatting. It was not plain text, but probably more similar to an RTF document or text with formatting which is why the text reader for Mac OSX 10.3 could understand the embedded formatting. As for your question, "With this latter copy & paste, you copied the same way as the way that failed with Word? Does this mean the paste only worked for a plain-text editor?" Yes that is exactly what I meant. At teh time I wrote the bug up that is the only way I could get the list to copy from the emailin Thunderbird to a word document. I do not recall whether I tried this using mail.app, but think not as I have not used mail.app for almost 3 years. For all I know this could only be a Mac problem.

Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies? (1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is 2.0.0.16)
