Do you have "Centural European" font installed ? IF you do, you should see at
least one of the following menu item in the keyboard menu - "Czech","Hungarian",
"Polish","Slovak". Also, if you installed "Centural European" script suppport,
you should see the following font in the SimpleText font menu- "Geneva CE" ,
"Chicago CE"

Central European fonts are visible in simpletext, although keyboards are not
included in list of available keyboards.
1. Why don't the fonts display in Central European font preferences?
2. What happens when we open an empty popup list?

This bug happens on all platforms.
Steps to reproduce on PC:
1. Select Edit | Preferences menuitem.
2. Select fonts panel.
3. make some changes to the default values. I changed the default font type and
the "Use my fonts" option, but that may not be necessary.
4. close preferences panel.
5. reopen preferences panel.
Result: fonts have disappeared. Basically, you can only change preferences once.
After that, they are "frozen".
I'm changing the priority on this to P1 and severity to critical. Basically, if
this bug is not fixed, this functionality does not exist in the product.
Severity: normal → critical
Priority: P3 → P1
Hardware: Macintosh → All

I think amasri are talking about two different issues here.
1. On Mac, for Centraul European, there are no font- I think this is because he
does not completely install Centrual European language kit. If he complete
install, then he should see those keyboard menu show up. If that is the case,
this could be invalid. We should try in other's Mac systems or reinstall the
central european language kit to his system
2. The all platform problem- amasri- please open a seperate bug and assing to
jbetak

I installed the CE fonts on 8.6, but this still doesn't work. The Chicago CE and
Geneva CE fonts do show up in the popup list for Japanese encodings in the font
preference panel.
Font pref won't show anything unless the appropriate font is installed. With
appropriate font installed, it actully picks the correct font for the language
group. Works fine in my Mac with Mac03-13-08-M15 bld.

Yes, it seems to be the case that the algorithm being used succeeds in some
cases and fails in others. My CE fonts are installed, but they are appearing in
the Japanese encoding popup list, not the Central European.

Is that true that you only install the CE font without install the CE script
bundle ? Can you reinstall the font from the MacOS 9 CD ?

this is because the script bundle is not installed.

This seems to be a problem with how the fonts were installed.
