The toolbar button's menu generates nothing. No app is launched.

A click on any email link generates absolutely nothing - no activity.

Read a suggestion to change mailhandler option to Thunderbird in about:config -
no mailhandler option found.

Checked KDE - Thunderbird set as default email client.

Mozex may have helped but not available.

The click to launch Thunderbird worked in previous versions but stopped with 1.0.7.

1. Click any email client launcher link
2. Nothing happens

Nothing

Launched Thunderbird

Thank You for the quick reply.

Unfortunately you failed to read my report. Please read line 5, "Checked KDE . . ."

It addresses the subject of your reply. Tried that and failed. I spent at least
30 - 60 minutes researching this subject through search engines and forums. My
post gives my many results.

I went so far with the subject of your reply as to modifying the underlying
configuration files such as emaildefaults in the .kde folder. Absolutely no success.

Enough said. Matter closed. The erasures on this make go reading.

Anyway, I have found a work around. I created a new setting in about:config.

It is "network.protocol-handler.app.mailto / user set / string / $HOME/..."

Firefox now works in that Thunderbird starts.

Firefox is a Gnome app KDE settings are not checked. Most likely 1.0.x was specially configured by your distro to check KDE settings. It appears that the last paragraph of the defalut mail client applies in this case. I don't know what exactly the last paragraph is telling you to do. In general it is telling you that you need to generate a file that gnome would have that stores the default browser settings. I suggest getting a clarification from the forums or a KDE user group.

The send mail button and link in the tools menu has been removed for Firefox 2. Since Firefox 1.5 is in stability and security patch this won't be changed in Firefox 1.5.
