Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1

When FF refreshes a live bookmark located on a server that's currently down at the time of the update, it hangs the user interface until the connection times out. This happens when the automatic update time for that particular bookmar, as well as anytime that bookmark is accessed, whether through a menu or an extension like Sage.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load a live bookmark
2. Try refreshing that bookmark when the server is down
3.

Actual Results:
Firefox's UI hangs while the connection attempts, fails, and times-out.

Expected Results:
Firefox should load the bookmark in the background and not cause the entire UI to freeze up.

Can you provide an URL? In any case the UI doesn't freeze when I disconnect and click "Reload Live Bookmark".

The actions I see happen when I connect to http://www.mountyscorner.com/nonsequitur.php, for instance. At the moment the site is up and running, but the server that runs that site has been experiencing some problems where any attempt to connect to it results in a lengthy time-out. Unfortunately downtime is not predictable, so I can't say when this problem will happen next. I do know the guy who runs the server, and if you want to set up a time to test it, I'm sure it could be arranged.

I have experienced this on Firefox 2.0.0.7, on Windows 2000.

Use the following Live Bookmark: http://rss.tdnam.com/recent_feed_all.xml

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add the following as a live bookmark on the Live Bookmark toolbar: http://rss.tdnam.com/recent_feed_all.xml
2. Close firefox
3. Open firefox
4. Access that live bookmark right away

Result:
- Firefox display a "loading bookmark" message (or sometimes no message), but hangs until the live bookmark is loaded. There is nothing the user can do but wait. The entire Firefox UI is unresponsive, even other Firefox windows that may be open.

Expected Result:
- Firefox returns a "loading bookmark" message but allows the user to surf or click onto another menu or toolbar item.
