(Whiteboard: [CLOSEME 5-15-2010])
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1
After a user has installed 1.5b2, if they attempt to install version 1.0.6 over 1.5b2, it will install correctly. However, the bottom 1/5 of the screen is taken up by a tan bar/rectangle (the same background color as the search bar) that is completely empty except for the character ">" in the upperleft hand corner.
Reproducible: Always
Did you delete all of the 1.5 files before installing 1.0.x? Did you use a new profile?

probably an extension or theme problem.
try -safemode http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode and remove the bad theme(s) / extension(s)

Downgrading is not supported if you install over an older build. You have to remove the newer build before you install the old one.

But correct me if I'm wrong: if I uninstall 1.5B first, I will lose all my extensions / configurations / bookmarks / etc., right?

No you wont, since your profile is stored in the application data folder

Ok, I tried uninstalling Firefox 1.5B and then installing 1.0.7. However, the bar is still there. I took a screenshot of it, and uploaded it to the "yousendit.com" server, for anyone who would like to take a look. (Please see http://s61.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3CF37RU3QYE5N2AQ9HBTHU8SO0)

Please note (in reference to comment 2) that safe mode doesn't fix the problem.
Also, please note (in reference to comment 3) that "Downgrading is not supported if you install OVER an older build. You have to remove the newer build before you install the old one." However, I DID remove the new build before installing the older build, so it should work, but there is apparently a bug somewhere which needs to be fixed.

Any update regarding comment 8?

This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.x or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
