This was reported in Asa's blog, appears to be a CSS regression.

Here is a summary page he created to show which browsers it works on for reference: http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/onetruelayout/appendix/exampleresults
This site works properly in Firefox 1.0.7, but does work in our latest candidate build (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051025 Firefox/1.5).
Checked on Windows, the problem exists there as well.

Changing product to core, that is where this belongs.
Component: General → Layout: Images
Product: Firefox → Core
Version: 1.5 Branch → 1.8 Branch

As Jesse pointed out, this bug should have a simplified test case attached to it. I am also not sure if it a dupe of Bug 312777, which is mentioned in Asa's blog as well.

adding dbaron to the cc list, adding regression keyword.
Keywords: regression
Based on email correspondence with the reporter of bug 312777 (from a while ago), in which he described the two as the same problem,
