RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 280006

People

(Reporter: jfox, Assigned: mscott)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.5 beta

Fails to recognize Eudora address books (i.e. file type).
Attempts to import addresses from a text file (Nisus email) produces names (intermittently) but no email addresses.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Follow standard import procedure for address books.
2. Try "importing" via a file search. Thunderbird doesn't recognize the Eudora address bookfile

Actual Results:
Blank address book from Eudora
From text file you get (some) names but no addresses

Expected Results:
Correct email address book entries

In the case of Eudora, there a file recongition problem.

For text file email addresses, Thunderbird can't distinguish between an email address (i.e. the standard email address format) and other address data (names, snailmail addresses etc).
Maybe related to bug 280006?

you are describing two different problems in this bug. Please file a different bug for the Nisus email issue.

Eudora is installed and in use?
Please supply full file and directory names that it isn't finding.

Please provide the exact steps you used.

I also cannot import nicknames from Eudora into Thunderbird version 1.5 using the Import Wizard (Tools Menu/Import). I select "Address Books" in the first screen, then select Eudora in the second screen. The wizard will not permit me to select "Eudora Nicknames" from the selection of the address book directory. When I select "Eudora Folder" and click "Choose", the Wizard brings me back to the dialog asking me to select the program from which I would like to import.

Please note that the import wizard worked perfectly importing the Address Book from Eudora in earlier versions of Thunderbird. (1.0.x)
I can confirm that Thunderbird 1.5 exhibits the behaviour described in comment 3.

BTW, the workaround is to save your Eudora address book as comma-separated text, which can be imported into Thunderbird. It's rather tedious, as you have to manually match up the field names, but it works. So I think the text file import part of this bug is invalid.
