Summary: AS page loads afirefox window a box appears: Firefox cannot continue → crash loading embedded WMV
Version: unspecified → 1.0 Branch
I'm having a similar problem with wmv's from comedycentral.com. It should be noted, at least in my case two important factors: 1) It loads fine when revisiting the link (via session manager extension) 2) When using external player extension MediaPlayerConnectivity it will not crash. Furthermore, I'm on Linux using 1.5.0 and am not "a sufficiently empowered user" to either confirm the bug or note it's presence on another operating system or Firefox version. Complain to the Dutch, -Eric
Follow-up I've noticed minor problems relating to MPlayer (which I primarily use embedded). I've just learned that every time I use MPlayer, it starts with this error message: [AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy. Despite that, it continues to play content without a problem. The error is most likely some funk on mplayer; however, handling an exception by crashing is likely to be an unintended feature of firefox. I've not built the kernel on this system (fedora core 5 pre--current-), but this may only be an issue with OSS users (and possibly OSS-simulation).
I now can confirm this is a an exception handling problem, having tried the attached URL with both MediaPlayerConnectivity and without. Mplayer (used by default by firefox) chokes an error out even on the downloaded file: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. Xine does not have a problem playing the format, however. Summary may ought to be changed to "Crashes when plugin returns an error." I'm also guessing that OS ought to be "All" though distribution variants and personal setup may prevent that from being technically true. And I'd go further to suggest, with the difference between 1.0 and 1.5, one might guess that this Version ought to be "Trunk," and I would solidly suggest some "empowered" user confirm this bug as "New." Addendum: Looking for bugs that mention crash, plugin and error, I notice that, among half of those marked critical, there's a running theme there: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=Firefox&content=crash+exception+plugin
