Version 1.6a1 (20051029)

Please note that I found similar bug reports to this problem, though not the same.
I tried making a new sub-folder (to "Local Folders"), then delete it, and finally empty the trash folder. It was gone. Then I restarted TB, and it was there again. I also tried turning on "Empty Trash on Exit" and closing TB - same problem. Then I created a new message, saved it, moved it to the folder, deleted the folder, emptied trash, and restarted TB. The folder was back, the message was gone.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a new sub-folder
2.Delete the newly created sub-folder
3.Empty trash
4.Restart TB

Actual Results:
The deleted folder is back.

Expected Results:
The delete folder is deleted.
WFM: 2.0.0.4 (20070604)

T'Bird 2.0.0.4 (20070604).

I've had a subfolder in my filed mail ever since I voted for this bug, and I still cannot delete it. Highlight it, press delete, answer OK to confirm, folder is still there. Drag folder to trash, answer OK to confirm, folder is still there.

I don't know how to reopen a bug; hope this comment will do it.
Stuart, does the folder you want to delete also exist inside the trash folder? What's the name of that folder? Does it contain certain special characters? Is this folder empty? Is it POP3/IMAP or Local Folders? Could you try to reproduce it with a fresh profile and no sensitive data? If yes, could you send me this profile?

Reopening until we know what happens here.

No, when I empty the Trash folder, it becomes completely empty.

As yesterday's events reminded me of the problem (I've just been ignoring it), I closed TBird and went into the profile directory and simply deleted the problem file and its .msf file. The folder is now gone when I run TBird.

But this is how it came about:

I have a folder called "Filed Mail"; in it is a subfolder called Phoenix, and in that was a folder called "PGL Website". I also by mistake had created the problem folder, with the name "PGL Website", as a direct subfolder of Filed Mail. So the same folder name existed as a direct subfolder of Filed Mail, and as a subfolder of another subfolder in Filed Mail.

The problem folder was empty when I was trying to delete it within TBird.
It's POP3, not Local Folders.

I'm sorry, but I just don't have time at the moment to try reproducing it; maybe this info will help you do so?

Thanks,
stuart
It's bad that you deleted the corrupted files. As I understand now, you cannot reproduce this problem anymore? If this is correct, please close this bug as WORKSFORME. If it still will happen again some time in the future feel free to reopen.
The folder and .msf file were still in my Recycle bin, so I restored them. The subfolder again appears in the Filed Mail folder, and again can not be deleted. I also tried renaming the subfolder and then deleting, but no, the folder will not go away.

But here's something interesting: all last week (after I deleted that folder and msf file) and this morning (until I restored them), T'Bird would crash whenever I returned to it after leaving it running in the background while I worked in other applications. Since I restored the folder and msf file, I've had no crashes. The crash problem was reported as Bug 352352, and I added a comment to it last week.

If you can give me step-by-step instructions for creating "a fresh profile and no sensitive data" the way you'd like to see it, I'll have a go at it.
T'Bird just crashed again, after being in the background for a while. I guess that was a red herring.
I would recommend that you send me the files first. But before you do anything make a backup of the whole folder for this mail account!

First create a new mail account of the same type. Use some random data to finish the wizard. After the creation you can copy everything from inside the affected accounts folder into the new one while Thunderbird is closed. Restart Thunderbird and delete unnecessary folders in the new account. Clean-up each folder and compact everything. If all MBOX files are 0 byte in size you can pack the whole folder structure and send it to my address. I will have a look that I can reproduce the issue on my pc.
Could this be duped for bug 388781?
Along with bug 228500
Sorry, Henrik, I just haven't had time to go through all that process to send the files. Ovidiu, I would say from the descriptions that the three bugs are pretty much the same.

thanks,
Stuart
Stuart, no I have to say sorry. I missed your email with the attached testcase. But now I found it at the bottom of my bugmail account. I'll try to have a look at it soon.

Sorry that I was a bit slow in confirming this bug. But now its clear that I can confirm this behavior.

I run the test with the given files Stuart has sent me a while back. I'm able to reproduce this issue with any Thunderbird 2 build but not with Thunderbird 3 anymore. Trying to delete the folder "Not PDL website" results in no movement to trash. Even no error is shown. I'll attach a copy of the Local Folders which can be used to easily reproduce the issue.

I'm using 2.0.0.16 and confirm that the problem still exists. Don't know about version 3, but it doesn't seem to be the production release yet, and I don't want to use a beta.

It was just a notice to the devs so they know where they have to look at.

Wada, do you know a similar bug?
