I scanned for viruses and sypware and my system came up clean, but Thunderbird will not work. I tried reinstalling it, but nothing works. Now, if I open the program it just hangs there with an hour glass, and won't do anything. When I try to close the program (control/alt/del) it says that the program is not responding. I can't get in to read or retrieve my old mail, or get any new ones. Reproducible: Always
Diane, what version of thunderbird are you using?
Severity: critical → normal

Diane, would it be possible to try to reproduce this bug on a 1.5 build? I don't have a window ME machine myself to try unfortunately.
Summary: When I try to open Thunderbird, it freezes and will not allow me to read or receive mail. When I try to close, it says "not responding". → Thunderbird freeze on opening - Task not responding

This is just weird, because I have been using Thunderbird for the last year on this PC with good results. If I copy Thunderbird in my programs folder onto my external hard drive, and get another PC (which I have on lay away right now) would my data be lost? I am thinking that maybe it is my PC, and not the software. Possibly... Outlook still works on this PC, but I hate using it.
Your data is stored in your profile, so if you copy the folder, none of your current mail will be visible. Try installing it on another computer (Windows ME too) if possible and see if the hang still appears. Thanks for your help.

There are a lot of things in there right now that I will need. I don't know of anyone else that has a Win Me PC. Everyone that I know has XP, which I am going to get in a couple of weeks.
If you copy your profile, the data will still exist and TB should pick it up.
