Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the above URL. Actual Results: The QuickTime plug-in is started, plays the movie but shows nothing (perhaps because it doesn't support the codec). Expected Results: The download manager should handle the file. This bug seems to be similar to bug 308163.
Invalid. If you type about:plugins in the address bar you will see that quicktime registers itself as a handler of avi files. Open system prefrences -> quicktime -> advanced -> mime settings -> uncheck avi. If you have done this then delete the pluginreg.dat file from ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
This works, but this is very unintuitive. IMHO, Firefox should have a way to synchronize the pluginreg.dat file (or this should be done via the preference "Download Actions", see below). Now the Download Manager opens, but I still have QuickTime as the only choice! Firefox doesn't let me choose another application (BTW, I had no such problem when I was using the Mozilla Application Suite in the past). I also had a look at the preferences, in particular "Download Actions", but I only have access to PNG and TIFF. I can't configure other file types. This is in complete contradiction with the Firefox help.
Firefox asks the OS what program is the default handler for the file. You likely need to remove quicktime's local file association too.
When I double-click on an AVI file, it is opened by VLC. But from Firefox, the download manager wants to open AVI files with QuickTime.
Does this still happen with firefox 3.6.3 or alter and quicktime 7.6.6 or later?
This bug no longer occurs with Firefox 3.6.3 on the given URL and QuickTime 7.6.4 (the latest version for Tiger): VLC is proposed. Closing.
