Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050920 Firefox/1.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050920 Firefox/1.0.7

I installed Thunderbird1.5RC1 on RH8 Linux, the new message alert, popup or sound, none of them are working. Earlier I had 1.0.7 version in which the sound alert was working, but after upgrading to 1.5RC1 none of the alerts is working.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. From Thunderbird|Edit|Preferences
2. Select popup & sound
3.

Actual Results:
No sound or popup windows appears when a new mail arrives.

Expected Results:
Should popup a new mail alert and play sound.
I can also confirm this with 1.5.0.4 since I can only get the sound to work. I would love to see a visual alert that Windows users see.
This bug is affecting me too. I get no visual, nor aural notification and I'm using 1.5.0.5.

I've been using 1.5 since it's release and I didn't even realize 1.5 had mail notifications on Linux until I went looking for an extension.

There could be quite a few people affected by this, simply turning it off and on again in Edit -> preferences doesn't work.
Ok, it seems bug 332160 is being worked on for 2.0 that fixes this.
The alert UI is already present from the Windows version
Check this feature out in the beta release of TB 2.0.
