If someone uses click handers on span tags (or div), to basically make links, the keybindings for focing the link into a new window/tab don't work.  seems like it requires a a href for those to work.  to the users of the web page, the browser just isn't doing what they want.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. load the sample i'm about to attach
2. click w/ modify to try to force a new tab

Actual Results:  
new window opens instead of it showing in a new tab

Expected Results:  
new tab opens w/ the target page
