I discovered a bug that seems to have been (re)introduced with Firefox 1.5Beta and Up (inc Deer Park Alpha2) - Firefox 1.0.7 works as expected. When typing a post on a vBulletin messageboard, entering a special character (such as a © copyright symbol) by holding down the ALT-key and typing in the desired number-code on the Numberic Keypad, results in an unexpected jump to the forum's Index page, Search page, or Search Results page, depending on the keys pressed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the vBulletin test forum, and create a new post (or reply)
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15
2. Start typing in the message box. Now try entering a special character via the ALT-numberpad. ex: ALT+0169 for © (copyright), ALT+163 £ (British Pound).
3. Experiment with different key-cominations. I noticed that - ALT+01, ALT+02, ALT+04, ALT+05 (but not ALT+03) seem to make the page change. Other key combinations such as ALT+4 take me immediately to the Forums Search page, but another combination such as ALT+7 does nothing.

Actual Results:
The current webpage changes to either the forum Index, forum Search page, or forum Search Results - depending on the ALT-key combination pressed.

Expected Results:
Expected result is to dislay the desired special character!

I have been able to test & verify this Bug on vBulletin forum software versions 3.0.6 - 3.5.1, and all exhibit the same behaviour. I have tested on Firefox 1.5Beta1, RC1, RC2, and Deer Park Alpha2 - all on new profiles with Default theme & 0 extensions installed, and Bug is present in all. This Bug does seem similar to Bug#257478 from August, 2004 - see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257478 - however, as Firefox 1.0.7 did not exhibit the Bug, that issue appears to have been corrected previously.

Note: I posted a Bug report on the vBulletin forums believing it to be an error inside the vBulletin software (as it doesn't seem to happen on any other forum type that I visit), but there it was suggested it is likely a Firefox regression.
Incidentally, I noticed that on a new profile, with only the Google Toolbar installed (version 1.0.20051104), entering a ALT+ character in a input form such as this one here on Bugzilla - will cause the input to jump. Works fine in Firefox 1.0.7 ; is this related - did something in the ALT-key instruction inside Firefox get screwed up recently??
This is a duplicate of bug #257478 you linked to, it was a bug reported on the Trunk rather than the 1.7 Mozilla branch which Firefox 1.0.x is based on.

Can you please explain why the bug is not present in Firefox 1.0.7 then?
Thanks

"it was a bug reported on the Trunk rather than the 1.7 Mozilla branch" seems pretty clear to me. Firefox 1.0.7 is equivalent to the 1.7 branch.
