User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5 Firefox will download the build through the auto update mechanism and then it will fail to update the build to RC3 The reason that Firefox gives for this failure is that a component is still running. This is after firefox has already shut itself down to reapply an update. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Perform check for new update 2.Allow the update tobe applied... 3.Watch it fail each time. Actual Results: it fails the update and reverts back tothe current build, Expected Results: Firefox is updated to RC3 1.5 I tried to do the update in safe mode to see if an extension was interfering with this and the problem still showed up.
The error message that I am receiving is "One or more files could not be updated. PLease make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart Firefox to try again." I am currently running this system with administrator rights.
Are you sure there's no other instance of Firefox running (the same Firefox but with a different profile)?
There are no other instances running on another profile. Another thing is that it will try to apply the update each time that Firefox is restarted. It wont endless loop, but it will try to redo the update, and it will fail every single time.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051117 Firefox/1.5 ID:2005111722 This works for me. Does it also fail when you rename you current installation folder (probably in Program Files), install RC2 (ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5rc2/win32/en-US) and then update it to RC3?
yes. I had the same problem with two other computers I tried to do the autoupdate function with.
James, can you post the buildID's for the machines you're referring to? The last-update.log files would also be helpful from the /updates directory.
No response for a long time. I close this bug as WFM. If its still happen to you feel free to reopen.
