This is rather ugly to observe, in the case of transform only the text without descenders translates.

Likely a bug in cairo's ATSUI backend.

There was a bug in cairo ATSUI that is a likely culprit - the way text extents were being measured. Instead of being the inked extent, they were (roughly) from the baseline to the capheight for each glyph, so descenders were a problem. I'm in the process of fixing this, see:

Should be fixed next time cairo is synched up.

as of yesterdays nightlies camino and minefield:

the situation has improved, not sure when, however there are still pixel or possibly double pixel remnants being left displayed.

ascenders are leaving red lines, similar for music, etc...

no code was written specifically for this bug which is now fixed. It is a dupe of  the various bugs itemised in the comments #3 #5 #9.

please dont reopen unless you have evidence the issue remains open

It's not a duplicate according to the summary.  If this bug is "this page displays incorrectly for various reasons", then its summary should say so, but such bugs generally shouldn't be filed in bugzilla.

comment #3 clearly explains the situation, after this was fixed there remained a small few pixel error. 
I suggested opening another bug, this wasn't commented.
someone else opened bug 36153 which dealt with the pixel issue.
now this bug is also fixed so this bug is closed.
