I bought a new desktop from gateway with Windows XP installed. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox setup 1.0.7 but when I click on the icon (the program installed OK), I get a error message "firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" The error signature is AppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 1.0.7.0 and ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009784

What is wrong? It works fine on my laptop with the same XP system. Something wrong with the new desktop. Probably some setting. Appreciate any help. Peter

It should open the program
Maybe you could try a new start of everything?
Within a few days the new 1.5 will come out. You could also try the current 1.5RC3. Before installing try making a new profile (close Firefox, click on your Windows Start button and type %appdata% in your Run box. Rename the folder Mozilla.
You could also create a new profile by starting Firefox with the -p extension:
firefox.exe -p

Actually, it worked on my laptop which worked anyway, but it didn't work on my new desktop. I downloaded the beta 1.5RC3 version and that didn't work either. Any more suggestions? Appreciate the help. Peter

Nothing worked, even the new beta version. Do you have some other suggestions. This is very frustrating. Peter
Did you try the approach in comment 1? That + an uninstall of firefox, make sure the "mozilla firefox" folder is gone in program files folder

then reinstall
WFM on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060924 Minefield/3.0a1 ID:2006092404 [cairo]

Save Bookmarks.html and remove the profile then reinstall the latest build.
