This is the wrong thing to do - plain text documents should be opened using the appropriately configured fixed-width font. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a plain text document Actual Results: Text document opens and displays with variable-width font. Expected Results: Text document opens and displays with fixed-width font.
What's your monospace font set to in the Appearance preference panel (in Camino's preferences)? Text files are in a fixed-width font for me.
There we go, I'd misset that to another font with a similar name. Sorry!
