317978 - wrong address hangs the browser

User-Agent:       Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

In a browser, if u open some standard url like - msn.com it works fine. 
Then on tab u open url  which is not present a wrong url by mistake, like colbsuite.com 
This results in hang and Browser does not responds even if u wait for some time.
Fow which i have to use Task manager and End task, as it is not responding. This in turn closes all Firefox browsers that are opened up.

This behaviour is seen mostly wheenever by mistake u enter wrong web address, which does not exist. 
This result in closer of all Firefox browser open, so loosing all other pages that were open.

Sometimes by chance u enter wrong url address, always result is hanging, and not responding. End task result in all browser closer.

This should not happen, like in IE , when u enter wrong address, it take to search page and suggest look for correct url. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a browser, type any working url like - www.msn.com
2. Open a tab, type any non working url  like - colabsuite.com
3. 

Actual Results:  
This hangs the browser. 
Not respoding status.


Expected Results:  
Should not get hanged or not responding.

The browser version you're using is very old. Can you retry it with a newer build?

If you still have problems try the safemode to rule out extension problems:

Hi,
Thanks for the promt response.
Have downloaded the latest one now from the given link.
Current version is - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

The problem seems to be over. Now no more browser crash or Not responding status.

But still performance level it is not that good, it takes long time to recover. Gets in hung state,  before reporting BAD GATEWAY.

This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.3 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
