User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 I have a single line dial-up connection. If I must use the phone or I want to leave a web site on screen or e-mail on screen and disconnect from the ISP, both products, after a period of time will redial and reconnect with the ISP. It is rather disconcerting to return home or wake up in the morning to find that my internet connection has been on for 10 hours. There must be a simple answer, but many hours of reading on the site and running through every possible setting has not found an answer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Thunderbird or Firefox 2.Wait (with a screen up, it will dial) or 3.Having searched the web, leave the page up but disconnect the dial-up connection and wait. Actual Results: It will redial and reconnect Expected Results: There should be a way to prevent this either by asking to make the connection or not making it unless commanded
I'm sure there must be a way to switch this of in your control panel for Firefox has no own dialer. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Connections. Then rightclick on your provider, choose Properties and in the Properties window there should be an option to uncheck to "always restore the connection when it is broken" (I have no English Windows so the real text might be a bit different).
I also am having this problem. I have "redial if line is dropped" unchecked on the connection properties, but Firefox still tries to auto-connect roughly every ten minutes, even without my permission. I also have a single-line connection which is shared by my father's business, so this has become an annoying problem.
This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME http://www.mozilla.com http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+mode
