I accidentally hit enter before I added a summary to this bug. Here goes: I have a pretty standard US English Mac OS X system. When I switch Firefox to the Asian font that ends in Pro W3 (Preferences->Content->Fonts & Colors) then close the prefs window, everything gets displayed in webdings. Go back to the prefs, and the popup menu shows Webdings. I assume this is some sort of fallback. Whether it is or not, our UI is bad. We should not be offering that font if we don't have it. If this is not a fallback, we should fix the problem. Any why Webdings? That seems like a very silly fallback.
Does this only happen when you close the window with Cmd+W? See bug 315195.
