TB crashes when trying to save or add an attachment. The previous attachment I had added was on my laptop, connected via my LAN. Looking in the config file, the preference mail.compose.attach.dir was set to a folder on my laptop. When the laptop is not connected, TB crashes. On changing this preference to a folder on my PC, all is working again.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Send an attachment from a network machine.
2.Remove that machine from the network
3.Now try to send an attachment

Sorry, hit the wrong bug.
I am pretty sure this bug is a dupe, maybe even one that's been fixed, but I can't find the earlier one.
which version of TB are you reporting the bug against?

I have the same problem. It is especially noticeable for me when, one day, I save an attachment from a received message to a folder on a network machine. The next day, before I have turned on the network machine, I try to save another attachment, and Thunderbird hangs immediately. I say "hangs" rather than crashes, because if I turn on the network machine whilst it is in this state, it recovers and puts up the "Save As" dialog, as expected.
I am using Thunderbird 1.5 RC1 on Windows XP SP2, and the relevant network machine is MacOS X 10.2.8 with Windows file sharing turned on.

Could you install with talkback and get a talkback ID for the crash? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback
TB is now displaying an error message - network drive not found - after about 20 seconds & defaulting to a folder on my own machine. It was previously hanging - or so it seemed - but I guess I might have just been impatient and caused the crash/hang (it went to a 'not responding' state according to XP) by trying to close TB down when it was waiting for a response.

This is Bug 303675(and many bugs DUP'ed to), and fixed, then no hanging any more.
Bug 303675 was fixed on 2005-08-08. (applied on Tb 2.0).

Original crash problem in comment #0 looks to be already WORKSFORME.
Duping to Bug 303675.

If Alastiar still has a problem, it might be bug 240644. So closing is great.
