Many macintosh users are unix users and would like decent keyboard control, like we had under linux. As has already been discussed (I don't know what happened to the old bug) many other tools allow emacs binding via control while leaving in apple commands on the apple/command key. Like linux, this should obviously be a preference (and not the default one), as many users won't know emacs. But it is unbelievably frustrating knowing the code is already there & works in the linux version & we just can't have access to it.
Reproducible: Always

Joanna, the patch in bug 229473 was not granted permission to land on the branch (seamonkey 1.0/firefox 1.5). So, in order to see it in action you'll have to use a SeaMonkey trunk build - or modify platformHTMLBindings.xml yourself.
