We can't really do much with this report. Does the download manager work properly when you disable all of your extensions by using safe mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/safemode)? If the program actually crashes, could you get us a Talkback ID (http://kb.mozillazine.org/talkback) for the crash?

in safe mode it hangs every time when I try to alter anything to do with the download manager. why not make the manager an option. why does it have to be compulsory? . says its not responding when I use task manager.
If this is still a problem, please try deleting the downloads.rdf file in your profile (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder) and see the MozillaZine forums (http://forums.mozillazine.org) for further assistance if required.
