Not sure if this is a generic tree control problem, or the thread pane in particular, but Ctrl click to extend selection is painfully slow, and if you get ahead of yourself, the previous selections are lost. I would say this has to be included in the perf bugs we fix for beta2 - it's not useable as it is.
