RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 313807

People

(Reporter: a.c.li, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

In some web sites, some input methods (e.g., Hebrew, Persian, and "U.S. Extended") are disabled. In particular, the Hebrew input method seems to be always disabled for Hebrew Google.

Besides the above, some non-English input methods sometimes do not work. When the input methods do not work, the behaviour is different from the above:

- For the input methods that are disabled as described above, in some edit areas, these input methods may be enabled. But if I choose one of these input methods and attempt to type anything, nothing is produced.

- It is not possible to enter letters with diacritics using the normal "U.S. English" input method. For example, using Option-U as a dead key for the umlaut/diaeresis would not work; however, if I choose a national input method (e.g., Finnish or Canadian French), the characters can be typed.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Expected Results:
Input methods should all work, or at least "not work" in a consistent way.

The release notes describe a similar problem related to Java. However, Java sites do not seem to work on my freshly installed copy of Firefox, so this problem does not seem to be related to Java.
Version: unspecified → 1.5 Branch
I can't reproduce this with www.google.co.il with 1.5, the latest JEP and 10.3.9, and I tend to think that whether or not Java is working for the reporter generally, this is bug 313807.

Reporter, can you provide some other sites (URLs) on which input methods are disabled?
I could not figure out how to install the JEP into my copy of Firefox 1.5, but I did try 1.5.0.1 and that fixed the problem. Assuming that the new release is using the new JEP, I am marking this as a duplicate of 313807 (even though the symptoms sound different to me).

Perhaps the JEP bug is worse than described and produces slightly different symptoms on different computers.
