User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to Tools/Options/Content/Colors.

2. Unclick "Use System colors"

3. Choose some custom colors for text and background. Click "okay, okay"

4. Now go to www.seatguru.com (or any site that uses in-page dropdowns)

5. Click on an airline on the left hand side.

Actual Results:
The background of the drop-down menu will be translucent, making the text
difficult to read.

Expected Results:
I would like the menu drop-downs to have background color the same as the custom color one has chosen.

This problem can be surmounted by choosing "allow pages to choose their own
colors".

Fine, but shouldn't one be able to select their own colors and escape
the eye-searing white on every browser?

thanks for your hard work and attention to this stuff.

I also find the bright white used in most websites as too harsh on my eyes and for years I have used "my own colors" to display webpages, black text on a gray background. As more websites add drop-down menus, the transparent background on these menu items blend together with the content on the main page. This often makes the menu items difficult and often impossible to read. So I have to set the FireFox option to let the website choose it own colors, refresh the webpage, choose the menu item I want, reset the FireFox option to use "my own color", then finally refresh the webpage so I'm back with a webpage that is not harsh on my eyes. What a pain.
I think a better solution is to let the website choose it own colors, but allow the user to reduce the brightness of bright backgrounds. I recently stated my case on the MozillaZine Support Forums. Go to this link to read me comments.

I have the same problem as bobobear. I have been waiting for years to get this fixed. Hopefully somebody will get around to this someday
