I think roc is working on something for this, if it'll work on opensolaris too this should get duped, if it'll need more work it should be dependent.

this is not the same bug as 66057. 66057 is concerned with firefox being influenced by the system $http_proxy setting. This bug is concerned with firefox being able to use the proxy setting as set in the gnome-network-preferences dialog, this setting does not set $http_proxy. It sets the http_proxy in the gconf-editor. e.g. after setting it run gconftool-2 -a /system/http_proxy to see the current gnome user's proxy setting
The patch in bug 66057 will use gconf settings when DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome.

hi Robert, I don't think it is a bug for Firefox. It is kind of feature lost when compared with Mozilla 1.7.

Ever confirmed: true
It works, but I think it's not in UI yet. For current Firefox 3, set network.proxy.type to 5 to use the system proxy settings.
The UI was added by bug 416274.
