User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
I've noticed my system fan going on a couple of times after upgrading to FF 1.5 so I installed a CPU monitor and noticed that if I am on a page that has FLASH components that it causes the cpu to gradually increase until it reaches 100% after a while. This is most noticeable on my homepage (http://sbc.yahoo.com same as http://my.yahoo.com but for SBC customers) but this is also evident at sites that use FLASH advertisements, which makes it really annoying to have to constantly restart Firefox to stop the huge load on my CPU.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to a site with FLASH elements (http://sbc.yahoo.com same as http://my.yahoo.com) make sure the FLASH based "Today" news module is in your page.
2. Open another tab and start browsing
3. After 5-10 minutes check CPU usage or you'll notice your CPU fan BLAZING.
Actual Results:
CPU usage at 100% computer almost unresponsive, fans blazing. CTRL+ALT+DEL to end Firefox exe and process.
Expected Results:
The CPU usage should not continually increase for no apparent reason.
This is an important issue and must be addressed as soon as possible in the next release. I know several people who complain about their computer slowing down because of Firefox. Unforunately, since some of these people have a considerably detached understanding of their CPU and don't know how to check usage the only solution they see as viable is to uninstall Firefox.
Please address this issue, I've tried to be as thorough as possible in explaining what's wrong. I have no special hacks running when this occurs.
