Go here: Preferences > Display > Fonts

Change encoding of outgoing or incoming mail to something else. Close Preferences window. Reopen Preferences window. Try to change outgoing or incoming encoding to something else. This is not possible because both pulldown menues do not open anymore. Solution: Shutdown and restart of Thunderbird.

Expected Results:  
Pulldown menues of font encodings should be accessible always.
