Would it be possible to add an about:bookmarks page that shows all bookmarks?
The difference with the bookmarks sidebar is that it'd be full-window and it'd be hidden when you click a link.
This page can then be used for new windows and new tabs. It'd save a lot of mouse clicks/movements.

You mean a bookmark with chrome://browser/content/bookmarks/bookmarksPanel.xul in the URL field? Or a bookmark to the bookmarks.html in your profile?

Yes. The xul option looks best at it's more compact.
Is there an option to show it in blank tabs?

You're describing the whole (visible part of) "Places" component that's replacing Bookmarks and History for Firefox 2.
