In my "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051219 SeaMonkey/1.0b" and also some versions before I see the effect, that new empty lines are inserted into the header after each "save". A condition for that problem seems to be, that I did a change in the 'source view' before. Normally I see that effect only in the page header, but in the attached demostration kit it's also visible in the page body. We demonstration problems from time to time in earlier versions, and I am pretty sure that this is a DUP of one of those "Retain original source formatting" bugs like bug 87102, 97278 or similar.
In the .ZIP you find 3 document versions showing inserted lines in last version.

Was no "mayfly", I still see it in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060130 SeaMonkey/1.0
This bug makes composer unusable and is still existing in 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060910 SeaMonkey/1.0.5' I changed to NVU in between.

(In reply to comment #3) > This bug makes composer unusable and is still existing in 'Mozilla/5.0 > (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060910 SeaMonkey/1.0.5' > I changed to NVU in between. > I've been following this particular problem for the past two years, and it still isn't fixed. The same bug exists in NVU, and hasn't been fixed there either. Judging by the date of this post, it doesn't look like anything is about to be done very soon, either. I don't like to complain about free software for obvious reasons, but this bug is the sole reason that I have to ever boot up Micro$oft Windows on any of my computers.... so I can run an HTML editor that works (Note-Tab). NVU and Composer are the only two editors which come close to working properly in Linux without hanging the computer or closing themselves with errors. I would love to see this ONE bug fixed, as it would make me a Composer user forever.
SeaMonkey v1.0.x is not supported anymore. Can you reproduce with SeaMonkey v1.1.9 ?

I cannot comment on whether this problem exists in any version of Seamonkey, but it has always existed in NVU, Kompozer, and Mozilla Suite, ver 1.7.8. Open any html document with, say, 50 lines of standard html, no style sheets. go to source mode, make a modification, go back to normal mode, save the file, then go back into source mode, and you will have inserted extra blank lines into the head of the document... sometiimes (more often than not), blank lines will also have been inserted into the body of the document as well. The problem exists in the Linux (Debian) version of these programs, and also in the Windows Version. It has been there since early 2006. Somewhere along the line I received a work-around which advised that the problem could be eliminated by setting preferences to "retain original source formatting". That work-around does not work. Extra blank lines are inserted, even when this option is chosen.
Not reproducible on attached testcase, closing User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:16.0) Gecko/16.0 Firefox/16.0 SeaMonkey/2.13a1 Build identifier: 20120712003002
