User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

The search bar should automatically hide itself after a specified time of inactivity. Possibly 30 seconds.

This should not be a user preference, but a logical default.

Reproducible: Always
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060129 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2006012914
It does.
Use find as you type. edit -> preferences -> advanced -> find as you type. It hides the find bar after a period of inactivity.
I think this is a valid request. If envoked in FAYT mode (via typing or with ' or /), the findbar should timeout according to accessibility.typeaheadfind.timeout (but it doesn't). Having a timeout time if envoked in find mode (via ctrl+f) seems reasonable to me.
