User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

After updating to 1.5, and updating extensions using the wizard at first startup, I saw in extensions one extension 2 times.

quotecolors 0.2.6.

this extension was one of the updates needed.
then I got it in 2 copies in the manager. one not editable.

i tried removing the one which was modifyable, it worked, but it did not give me access to the other one. so now i'm stuck with it.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1.install TB 1.5
2.update extensions by wizard.
3.restart TB, open extension manager

haven't tried to reproduce, since reinstalling both TB and older extensions not sure if possible today, and it's a production machine where i use it.
Actual Results:
currently i have an extension in my extension manager that is not enabled, and that i cannot touch in any way.

cannot enable, uninstall, update, nothing.

I'll add a screenshot next.

not sure if it's TB or the extension itself :(
the text "checking for updates" does not seem to be a real indication of what's going on, since an update was downloaded pretty fast previously (i deleted that one in the hopes to gain access to this entry, so it's not visible in the screenshot)

also, the same appearance in manager remains after several restarts, and continuos run for over 30min (during which time i can confirm internet access was working, and besides, if network was a problem, it should've given some error after a couple of minutes)
Maybe related to Firefox bug 307235 comment 10?
Yesterday I tried upgrading TB 1.0.6 to 1.5 with a similar set of extensions (including enigmail and quotecolors) on another machine (win98).

TB updated fine and installed new extensions ok.

[confused] can't confirm a reproductible way to this bug :(

how can I manually remove that troublesome extension (delete/edit some files?)
I had a similar situation. With Fx 1.0.x I had Flashblock installed. When I upgraded to 1.5, there was an update for the extension as well. The extension was installed and working, but I had two "Flashblock 1.5" entries in my extension list, both shown enabled -- the first had a generic icon and could
not be modified, the second has the extension's custom icon and was fully accessible.

I then uninstalled the extension, and *still* had a "Flashblock 1.5" with a generic icon (and no descriptive text).

I then edited extensions.rdf in my profile directory, and removed the two entries mentioning "flashblock". On restarting Firefox, there were no FlashBlock entries in the extension window.

(Be careful editing extensions.rdf -- the file is in XML and you have to be sure to delete complete entities or you'll leave the file in a borken state.)

Then I reinstalled; the Extension window now shows only one FlashBlock entry, which is completely accessible; and the extension works as expected.

I'm thinking the problem is with the extension failing to correctly update extensions.rdf, not with Firefox.

Or, this could be related to bug 325175.
This should be in part fixed by the patches in bug 319022 and bug 326722. Bug 332116 will also provide the ability to uninstall extensions in this state if there are other bugs that haven't been fixed yet where we end up in this state.
