Hello bugzilla team,
I'am here to report such an ennoying bug :
Evrything works really fine for me with thunder bird but one thing :
When i get some messages they are of course stored here : C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\qfpjp09b.Default User\Mail
THe only pb is when i del the messages in TB, the mail folder still makes the same size.
Look if i receive 10 meesages of 10 Mbit, the mail folder will logicaly makes 100 Mb.
Then i delete the 10 messages (from everyone, even from the trash of course).
result : the mail folder allways do the same size, like if i hadn't delete the files in TB. Is there any "undelete option i'am not aware of ? I've searched hard and never found any option like this.
Thanks a lot for you support,
Guillaume TAUREL
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Setup a mail account
2.Receive 10 messages of 10 Mbit (=100 Mbit)
3.Delete them in TB (everywhere even in trash)
4.Quit TB
5.Go in TB mail directory : the folder still makes 100 Mbit...
Actual Results:
The mail dir is still 100 Mbit.
Expected Results:
Since the mails have been deleted they souldn't take any more hd space. So the mail dir should make 0 Mbit or something near.
It should have REALLY deleted the files i've delete in TB.
I think this bug is major, cause the thunderbird inbox never stop to grow and for someone with a little HD, if the HD SPACE becomes 0 bytes it can cause the computer to hangup.

-> INVALID ?
There is an item "Compact folders" and also, you can set in preferences / Advanced / Offline & Disk Space an automated compression process.

You didn't understood me :
If i got a 1Gb message. It tooks 1 Gb on the hard drive, right. If i del this message in TB, instead of freeing 1Gb on the hd, nothing is freed.
Even if the message seems to be deleted (and is not accessible anymore and anywhere in firefox) the TB mailbox is always 1Gb large ! And it souhldn't because I've deleted the message.
TB don't really delete the message, it just makes like it is deleted (coz it's not accessible in TB) but the message still take the same place on the hardrive.
Is that more clear ? It's not a compression pb, it's just that the mail dir just keep-up growing and growing even if all messages has been deleted and that no message are stored in TB anymore.
Thx a lot for you support again,
Guillaume TAUREL

"compact" is not "compress"
