Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

Uploaded small PDF to file sharing service. IE can download it. Firefox saves with an extra 2k to file size, Acrobat reports file corrupted. Repeatable - See steps below:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Uploaded a PDF file to the free file sharing service at storeandserve.com.

2) Downloaded same file, following instructions, by accessing:

 http://storeandserve.com/download/94036/Jan06_Newsletter.pdf.html

This URL should remain good for at least a week.

3) Firefox downloader reports file size at 80.9 kb (correct) but file is saved on disk as 83 Kb.

4) Adobe acrobat reports file "damaged" - refuses to open it.

5) Used Internet Explorer to access same URL above. IE downloads the file correctly. Saved to disk at original 81K, and Acrobat opens the PDF with no problem.
Actual Results:
PDF file saved at 83K instead of 81K. Acrobat won't open.
Retested download procedure with Internet Explorer. No problem.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
WFM. Opens fine.

is this like these bugs? --> https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142517
, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316143
(They are in a slightly different context, but try the solution mentioned, which was to delete the mimetypes.rdf file, to see if it fixes the issue).

To the movers and shakers: surely this bug should be identified and fixed, since it crops up in postings here about once a month, which suggests the issue is very prevalent ...

Don't see connection, other than PDF's are involved - but tried the fix. No help there. File still shows up in my directory as 83K (and corrupted) even though the downloader correctly states it is downloading an 81K file.

Disappointed to see that in Comment #1 my result was NOT repeatable by that person, which leaves the disheartening possibility that the problem may be unique to my personal system. Sure hoping for enlightenment here...

Just discovered that when I went back to restory the mimetypes.rdf file, Firefox had created a new one. So cannot say that I successfully tried the fix.
