When compared with Firefox and Mozilla/SeaMonkey, Thunderbird does no longer offer some UI controls to control "client auth cert selection" and "enabled SSL protocols". I would like to propose to make Firefox and Thunderbird consistent and offer the user the same amount of security preferences. This makes sense, as there is no difference in the user of SSL/TLS and client certificates, regardless whether communicating with a web server (https) or a mail server (imap, smtp).

To elaborate on my request, there are two options: a) make Thunderbird's and Firefox's security tab share the same XUL that is currently used by Firefox or b) add "SSL protocols" and "when a site requires a certificate" sections to Thunderbird's XUL. When reading the wording in Firefox' XUL, it says: "when a WEB site requires..." I guess that mis-wording might have triggered the decision to remove it from TB's XUL? The pref is actually not restricted to "web sites". It applies for any application protocol that is used with SSL - https - secure LDAP - pop+ssl - imap+ssl - smtp+ssl

The Firefox version certainly looks better, but as I mentioned in bug 326173 Comment #5 I think we'd possibly get better bang for our buck if we did a larger make over. Of course I don't think anyone had any plans for this page. Perhaps it could be combined with the Updates page? maybe not...

Hm, was there a reason we don't have the When a server requests my personal certificate: ( ) Select one automatically ( ) Ask me every time ... that firefox has?
Summary: Make "prefs / privacy / security" match "firefox / prefs / advanced / security" → Make "prefs / advanced / certificates" match "firefox / prefs / advanced / encryption"

Comment on attachment 390281 [details] [diff] [review] proposed fix can you center the radio group? Without padding on the left I feel like it looks weird so I think it will be a bit better centered. We do that on the Adv. -> Reading & Display -> Open Messages in option.
