From the dupe:

"When you have a redirect source bookmarked but are on the destination, the
bookmark button should light up and editing it should give you the URL of the
original bookmark."

This bug is still present on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090612 Minefield/3.6a1pre, yay!
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

Summary: Make bookmark button redirect aware → Make bookmark star button aware of redirects
See also bug 68423 (expose original URI in UI after following 302 redirect and allow access to bookmarking etc)
The front-end team has discussed this, and we're not going to fix this for a number of reasons:

1) The problem is an edge-case that not many of our users hit
2) The solution would likely result in a performance hit
