User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060126 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060126 Firefox/1.5 FTP error when login. Message says: 500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable anonymous root After klicking ok firefox closes itself in an instant. No lag or hungtime. Obviously there is a problem with the ftp-server but that shouldnt crash firefox. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to ftp://whippe.no-ip.com 2. Leave usernamne and password-fields empety 3. Log in. 4. Look on the error-message, klick ok Actual Results: Firefox closed itself. Expected Results: Point out the error with the ftp-server, and not closed itself. At least more than 3 people have tried the same thing with the same result, everyone running Gentoo Linux. I've tried the same thing on windows and then it hungs, firefox is loading, says: beginning ftp-transaction, but nothing happens, you cant stop the loding by pressing stop, other links doesnt work to klick on. Simply you cant do nothing exept watch when firefox loads. Firefox doesnt really hung up because you kan exit the program without problem by pressing X (upper right corner :P). Summary: Crashes after ftp login error. → Crash after ftp login error
The URL provided in the original report is no longer responding. Are there any other ways to reproduce this? Reporter, if you control that machine, is it possible for you to make it available again, or explain what configuration on the server side causes the error?

It hasn't been online on week 9 but now it should be up again. The server uses vsftpd wich I also use on my machine, where i also experience the same bugg.

Reporter, if you control that machine, is it > possible for you to make it available again, or explain what configuration on > the server side causes the error? > The ftp-server causing the bug is vsftpd-2.0.3-r1 running with the example configuration provided with it. The option causing the server-error which causes the bug is mainly anonymous_enable=YES, (but its probably caused by some combination of other options too...?) Its seems to me that to be able to reproduce the error you need to run vsftpd using the example configuration provided with it. If that isn't sufficent I can send a config which causes the error. Also from now on the server in the original bugreport should be running most of the time.
The ftp server seems to not require a password anymore. Has it been fixed? If so, is there any chance the original setup could be restored temporarily? I know it's a little much to ask you to keep your server broken so that the bug can be tested, especially since there hasn't been any action here for a while, but the crashing code has since been removed (in bug 312760), so I'd just like to test that those changes have fixed the issue.
Server is now using the broken configuration for a little while so that ju can test if the bug is solved. But I'd like to change back as soon as possible, so if you post here when you are done or mail me, that would be nice.
Ok, this works on the trunk now. Since this isn't likely to be fixed on the 1.8 branch, I'll mark this WORKSFORME. Thanks for the help Linus!
