A patch for this issue

I'd like to see this land on the 1.8.1 branch as well. 

Makoto, do you have CVS access to check this in? If not, I can land it.

Has this been verified to work on VS2005? I had to use something different to
get VS2005 builds to work.

I think that the image doesn't load. I hand edit the manifest in the image to
get it to work.
