User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060213 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060130 Firefox/1.5 ID:2006013022 Using the Places nightly build from late January [1] with my 16.9 MiB bookmarks.html and 30.1 MiB history.dat, it took 25 minutes for them to be, erm, imported into the Places format, and after that, it always takes Firefox 25 minutes to shut down. I just timed it in a non-Places build with the same bookmarks and history, and it took 17 seconds. [1] http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/experimental/places/20060128/ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Spend five or six months browsing the web 12 hours a day, bookmarking everything, with your history set to expire in a year or something. 2. Time how long it takes to shut down Firefox. 3. Use a Places-enabled build with the really large bookmarks and history files. Actual Results: It takes 25 minutes for Firefox to shut down. Expected Results: It would take even less than the HTML and Mork formats' 17 seconds, since SQLite is supposedly really fast. I'm using an Athlon XP 2500+ and 1 GB of slow RAM, for comparison purposes. (Nobody's getting their hands on my bookmarks.html and history.dat. I want to be helpful, but I don't want to be giving anybody an almost complete log of my web browsing over the last five months.)

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
