Trying out the new builds, I find that I like to have Places be my start-up page. In the preferences, a button could be added to make it easy.
Otherwise I have to be smart enough to have a chrome URL be my homepage URL, and most users probably don't know what chrome is.
Finally, the user should be able to choose what part of Places should be that startup (ie Bookmarks, etc).
P.S. (Separate issue) Is chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul ever going to be masked in the URL bar? Instead of the alien (to users) chrome URL, maybe just say "Places"?

Places are displayed in a seperate window. They are probably not designed to show up in the browser where webpages are displayed.

-> INVALID as long as the organizer is opened as a separate window.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
