RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 328676

Details

(Whiteboard: cairo)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060223 Firefox/1.6a1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060223 Firefox/1.6a1

When starting Firefox over WinXP remote desktop (should be the same with windows terminal server connection) I only see the window title bar and the border, all inside is invisible and transparent. But when clicking on the right place I see buttons are functional (I could get print dialog for example).

When moving to the remote computer and switching existing display session to local monitor the formerly transparent Firefox content is now shown completely. Going back to the other computer and again taking over the session by remote desktop shows a completely black filled area with title bar and border.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install cairo firefox build on one WinXP computer
2. Allow remote desktop connections to this computer
3. establish a remote desktop connnection from a second computer to the first
4. open firefox on this remote desktop

Actual Results:
Only window title and border, inside content fully transparent and invisible (windows desktop and icons shown through)

Expected Results:
Content visible

Same problem, except I'm *not* using remote desktop.

Dragging the window by the titlebar drags the desktop images along with it.

WinXP SP2 + current on updates (I think) + installed .NET framework 2.0 as suggested elsewhere as possible fix for cairo build problems.

Had the problem through the .../nightly/2006-02-23-15-trunk zip build. Starting with the 2006-02-24-04-trunk nightly, I get no UI at all, just the process running at >95% CPU in task manager.

That's a different, much-discussed bug, but they both make it a problem to get build ID details....
See this bug here for more info: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328676 (16 bit display problem)
Hmm, don't know if it's identical because:

1. here Firefox does fully start and it works (but invisible)
2. I have not 100% cpu usage here

but of course it can be related

I had the invisible browser w/3rd party build from 02-23, and the non-start high-cpu problem with recent cairo trunk builds. Both fixed by setting 32-bit color depth.

Massive frustration greatly relieved by the workaround. Thanks much to those involved.

Behaviour has changed: I just found out I can change XP remote desktop to 24bit colors. Downloaded yesterdays cairo nightly but it didn't load and I got the 100% cpu. Went back to the first cairo nightly and tried with 24bit: started transparent as it did with 16bit.

cairo 20050223 nightly: firefox starts but transparent
cairo 20050227 nightly: firefox doesn't load, 100% cpu usage.

It didn't matter if I tried with 16bit or 24bit color depth, result was always the same for both builds.
After re-reading my last comment I have to add something to avoid misunderstandings:

Both cairo builds start fine when launched directly at the local screen (nVidia graphics card, 1024x768x24bit) of the remote pc, no hanging, no 100% cpu usage for both. So no installation, profile, VC8-runtime etc. issue.

Only when started over remote desktop the problems occur.
