This patch conflicts with my patch for bug 312760.  I think that patch also fixes this bug, so I think we probably want to just close this bug as WONTFIX.  Or, are you interested in this patch for the 1.8 branch?

    
    

    
  
I'm not interested in putting this on the branch. I'll close this bug, but I suggest taking a look at the variables I am removing and removing them in your patch as well. They are totally unused, and it is pretty simple to see which ones to get rid of.
