Resolution cahnges to 600 400 on opening Mozilla. Reverts to original setting on closure. Previously OK

And if you minimize Mozilla it also stays 600x400?
BTW: Mozilla 1.7 is very old and has various security bugs. Consider upgrading to Mozilla 1.7.12 or the successor of the Mozilla Suite, SeaMonkey 1.0.

Maybe you start Mozilla with the Compatibility option 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' enabled (assuming it's in fact 640 x 480)?
